Plastic Chairs

Plastikes Karekles or Plastic Chairs is a Greek folk group, the seed of which was sewn by a group of friends whilst lying on a beach in Greece, consuming an assortment of fresh fruit, some Ouzo and absorbing the less than stressful life of the Mediterranean coast line. Toying with the idea of how ideal it would be to play and sing your way through life with your closest friends, somewhere along the line it happened and that’s how they are here now.

Since becoming a group Plastic Chairs haven’t looked back. They regularly perform in different combinations (duo, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet) in restaurants around London, for private functions throughout the U.K and Greece, and have taken part in numerous festivals, most recently Henley, Chelsea and the Welsh Proms. They have also performed on London Greek Radio and the BBC in collaboration with the group Moosootoo and also live on Greek Radio.

A large part of the group’s work involves outreach projects. They are currently on the Live Music Now! Scheme and regularly perform for schools, hospitals and people of all ages with learning difficulties.

The music they play encompasses music from all over Greece including the Greek Rebetiko (often described as the Greek blues) and island music.
